MoviraTivi on Apple TV and iPhone: 11 steps from install to your favorite home channels

1. Decide which device to start with

   Every Apple screen uses the same apps with almost the same layout. Start with the Apple TV if you watch on the big screen, or with an iPhone if you want a quick look first. Once one device works, each extra one takes only a couple of minutes.

2. Download your player

   In the App Store, search for iMPlayer IPTV Player or Smarters Player Lite. Before tapping Get, check the developer: the Smarters app should name WHMCS SMARTERS. Copycat apps borrow these names and the TiViMate name too. Both genuine apps are free to install; their paid extras are optional.

3. Choose the Xtream Codes login

   Open the app and add a playlist or user using the Xtream Codes option. Avoid the M3U choice if Xtream is available, because Xtream loads folders and the guide more cleanly. On a phone, press and hold a line in WhatsApp, copy, switch apps and paste into its box.

4. Use your iPhone as a keyboard on Apple TV

   When a text box opens on Apple TV, a keyboard alert appears on any nearby iPhone signed in to the same account. Typing the server, username and password there is far quicker than with the Siri Remote. Include http:// at the start of the server and the port at the end.

5. Let it load once on Wi-Fi

   The app now downloads every live folder, the program guide and the 120,000+ titles in the library. On home broadband this takes a couple of minutes. Avoid doing the first load over mobile data. After this, only changes download and the app opens quickly.

6. Open the folders for your country

   Go to the live section. Folders start with the country name, so the USA, Canada and UK groups sit together, each split into news, entertainment, kids and sport. Canadian folders come in English and French. Scroll with the clickpad on the remote, or drag with a finger on the phone.

7. Save your favorites

   Use the favorite option on the channels you watch every week: local news, the main networks, a kids channel, maybe one sport channel. On the next visit, the Favorites list gets you to your channel in two moves. Each device keeps its own list, so set favorites on each one.

8. Enable Match Frame Rate

   Apple TV 4K and HD both have a Match Content menu inside Video and Audio settings; set Match Frame Rate to on. US and Canadian channels mostly broadcast near 60 frames per second, UK channels at 50, and this keeps each one at its native speed. Expect a brief blink when it changes.

9. Steady the Apple TV connection

   If your Apple TV 4K has a network port, a cable is the most reliable link for live channels. Wireless users should stay on 5 GHz and keep the box out of closed cabinets. For a long evening, run the app on the box rather than AirPlay from a phone, which doubles the traffic on your Wi-Fi.

10. Try it before you rely on it

    Watch a channel you know well for twenty minutes at the time you normally watch. Look at motion once the frame rate has switched, listen through your usual speakers and open your favorites. If anything looks off, message our team while there is no rush.

11. Add more Apple devices

    Each extra iPhone, iPad or Apple TV needs the app and the same three lines. How many play at once depends on your plan, anywhere from one to five screens, so a tablet in the kitchen and the living room TV can run different channels. Guide data and any catch-up go with the login.

iMPlayer or Smarters Player Lite on Apple devices

Two settings that make Apple TV look its best

Ethernet and Match Frame Rate matter more than any app setting. The Apple Support article on Match Content walks through the setting. Once it is on, UK channels at 50 fps and US channels at 60 fps each keep their own rhythm. Expats and travellers on iPhone

Where the country folders and favorites sit on Apple TV and iPhone

Software updates sometimes rename these menus. Treat the paths as directions, and if your screen shows a slightly different word, pick the nearest match and carry on.

Channels pausing in the evening? Five checks that usually fix it

• Connection: use an Ethernet cable, or move closer to the router on 5 GHz Wi-Fi; 2.4 GHz through several walls is the usual weak spot.
• Home traffic: hold off console updates, large downloads and cloud backups while you watch.
• Player: where the app has a buffer setting, raise it one step, and leave hardware decoding on unless a single channel acts up.
• Picture: switch on frame-rate matching if the device has it, so camera pans look smooth.
• Channel: if one copy of a channel stalls, open another copy in the same folder and tell us which one failed.

Common Apple TV and iPhone errors and how to fix them

One channel refuses to play

Open the app settings and try a different player engine or decoder; the default does not suit every stream. When a single channel keeps failing and everything else works, message us its name.

Your screens look nothing like ours

A copycat app is the likely reason. Remove it, then install iMPlayer IPTV Player or the WHMCS SMARTERS listing of Smarters Player Lite. Nothing changes on your MoviraTivi account. Copycats sometimes sell channel packs; ignore them.

Empty live folders

Confirm the playlist was added with Xtream Codes and not as an M3U link, then refresh it. The very first load of a large lineup needs several minutes; leave the app in front on home Wi-Fi meanwhile.

A black flash as each channel opens

That is Match Frame Rate retuning the television, normally over in a second or two. Longer gaps or an error message suggest a weak HDMI cable or port; swap them, or disable the setting and live with slight stutter on UK channels.

iMPlayer will not install

iMPlayer needs iOS, iPadOS or tvOS 18 or later. Update the device under Settings, General, Software Update. If the device cannot update that far, use Smarters Player Lite, which supports older versions, with the same MoviraTivi login.

No search result in the App Store

Listings follow the country of your Apple Account, not your location. Expats sometimes lose an app after changing that country. Type the complete app name; if nothing shows, ask us for an alternative player that accepts Xtream logins.

Playback halts when the phone locks

Most players pause as soon as the display sleeps, apart from picture in picture where supported. Set a longer Auto-Lock time in the display settings, leave the phone on its charger, or continue on the Apple TV.
